Columbia River Gorge National Senic Area

Here is what I found on a recent trip through the area on the way to Portland.

Between Portland and Cascade Locks is a section of highway 30 that has numerous waterfalls. Most are right next to the road and can be seen from the car. Some are about a 1/4 mile walk. The biggest of the them is Multnomah Falls. In my photos it is the one with the bride crossing over it. I believe it is the second highest waterfall in the US at 620 feet. It is right off the interstate at exit 31. There is an elegant semi-formal restaurant there. It would take approximately15 minutes to get there from the Best Western in Cascade Locks. In my opinion, you must see this.

I would not attempt to drive this area with a boat on the trailer. Highway 30 is pretty narrow. In my first photo you can see where the road passes around the building at the top of that cliff. The building is the Crown Point Vista House. This photo looks up stream on the Columbia river towards Cascade Locks. To tour this area you get off interstate 84 at exit 35, then drive on highway 30 until you get back on 84 at exit 22. The waterfalls and scenic area is along this route. You can of course reverse this course if you did this on the way from Portland.

The harbor in the photo is in Cascade Locks. The dock in the foreground is the guest dock that we will be using for Nationals.

The last photo was taken at the public rose garden in Portland.
